A sea kayak or touring kayak is a kayak developed for the sport of paddling on open waters of lakes, bays, and the ocean. Sea kayaks are seaworthy small boats with a covered deck and the ability to incorporate a spray deck. They trade off the maneuverability of whitewater kayaks for higher cruising speed, cargo capacity, ease of straight-line paddling, and comfort for long journeys.
Sea kayaks are used around the world for sea journeys from a few hours to many weeks, as they can accommodate at least one paddler together with room for camping gear, food, water, and other supplies. A sea kayak usually ranges from three to 5 and a half meters.
Sea Kayak – Origins

Sea kayaks have their origin to the native boats of Alaska, northern Canada, and Southwest Greenland. Eskimo hunters developed a fast seagoing craft to hunt seals and walrus. Earliest models were constructed from a light wooden frame (tied together with sinew or baleen) and covered with sea mammal (sea lion or seal) hides. Archaeologists have found evidence indicating that kayaks are at least 4000 years old.
Sea Kayaks for Rent

I love a sea kayak in any form. One can have it on its own boat and adventure over in places where the luxurious yacht can’t touch. It won’t be used as a dinghy, because the experience is different, but as a sport is very appealing

It is said that best experience can be achieved when you build your own yacht, and use it after that. A wooden sea kayak building kit costs very close to a ready made molded plastic one. You may build your kayak with plywood, epoxy, and fiberglass cloth. There are also the inflated types, but I don’t think they are very reliable.
Above you have a the promo for the most representative paddling documentary ever made. You may have noticed that the two guys have built their kayaks on their own. Such a kit can be delivered at your door in no time, because never before have boats of this complexity been so simply and quickly built. The building process takes no special skills. No power tools are needed. They require no strong back or mold. No trimming of panels. All the woodworking is already perfectly done with computer precision cut materials. One doesn’t need more than a basement or a garage to build a kayak, and if they are not available, the living room will do all right.
